Puffinus baroli (monotypic)
The Macaronesian Shearwater was included in what was a more
wide-ranging Little Shearwater. It is now, however, said to be more
closely related to the Audubon's Shearwater.
To the south, there is a race of the Audubon's Shearwater in the
eastern Atlantic, breeding on Cape Verde Island.
With recent taxonomy, the Little Shearwater now has a range
restricted to the Indian and southwestern Pacific Oceans, near Australia and
New Zealand.
